SI Metro Sacramento's Dream It, Be It Program, in partnership with Community Collaboration Charter High School, is sponsoring 12 high school students to participate in a Hope Through Art Foundation Mural Project that will teach students the business of art as a career along with completing a 75 foot wide outdoor mural in Sacramento. Artist Shane Grammer will share his passion and knowledge that has brought him success as a visual artist.
Soroptimist International of Metropolitan Sacramento reached another milestone on April 6, 2018 ... 35 years of service to the Sacramento Region and beyond! Over 75 SIMS members, former members and guests attended an evening celebrating SIMS' successes and the impact on our community of women and children that benefit from the generosity of our members and those who support our efforts.
Congratulations to SIMS' 2016 Live Your Dream Awardee, Lesli, upon her recent graduation from CSU, Sacramento. Lesli will be pursuing a masters degree in Social Work. We are pleased to have been a small part of Lesli's success. (photo: Lesli and her son, Ronan, at CSUS graduation ceremony.)
Once again, Soroptimist International of Metropolitan Sacramento (SIMS) is participating in Big Day of Giving (BigDOG) the 24-hour region-wide fundraiser. The funds raised by SIMS will go into our Community Assistance Fund (CAF) to be awarded to local non-profits supporting women and children in the Sacramento Region.
Now is the time to ask your colleagues, friends and family to support us and, in turn, make a difference in the community.
Lunafest 2018 was, once again, both a great event and raised over $15,000 for SIMS Community Assistance Fund. These monies will be distributed to programs we support in the local community and beyond. Thank you to all who sponsored, donated and attended...OUR SUCCESS depends on YOUR GENEROSITY and SUPPORT!
The Live your Dream Award assists women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills, and employment prospects. The Award is one of the key programs across the country. Soroptimists award over $1.5 million dollars in scholarships each year.
Monica Lorraine Lindsey is winner of the SIMS 2017 Live Your Dream scholarship . She is on her way to a degree in gerentology and plans to create a career helping the aging baby boomer generation.
Every year, thousands of children in the Sacramento area get to spend a week at an innovative science camp in the scenic Eldorado National Forest. Too many local kids miss out on such opportunities because their families can’t afford the cost. Such is the situation for students at Ethel Phillips Elementary School in south Sacramento. Read how SIMS is changing that story, and help us send kids to camp.
Our second annual LUNAFEST Film Festival was April 8, 2017, at the Guild Theater in Oak Park was a rousing success.
Our thanks to Event Sponsors — Dr. Jan Thornburg, Just Taxes, UNICO Engineering, the Labadie Family, Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op, Grocery Outlet and Hoppy Brewing!
