Grants & Service

Community Assistance Fund

SIMS makes grants to organizations in the Sacramento area that serve low-income women and children in need. We also support groups working to preserve and enhance the environment through local projects. Our grants fund direct services, not administrative costs. Most awards are $1,000 or less. Applicants must be tax-exempt organizations, Section 501(c)(3), schools or government entities.

Hands On Projects

Soroptimists do more than write checks. We volunteer our time and skills to make a difference in our community. One of our favorite hands-on projects is Ethel's Village, the support system we have established for children attending Ethel Phillips Elementary School in South Sacramento. Other hands-on projects in the community have included volunteering for Rebuilding Sacramento, placing awareness information on Human Trafficking in restaurants and offices, and creative painting with residents of a shelter for battered women.

Dream It, Be It

Dream It, Be It targets girls in secondary school who face obstacles to their future success. It provides girls with access to professional role models, career education and the resources to live their dreams. Soroptimist clubs work in partnership with girls in small groups or a conference setting to help them in finding career opportunities, setting and achieving goals, overcoming obstacles to success, and learning to move forward after setbacks or failures.

Live Your Dream Awards

The Live your Dream Award assists women who are the primary source of income for their families and are returning to school to improve their education, skills, and employment prospects. This national program awards over $1.5 million in scholarships each year and thousands of dollars locally.
