Literacy is about reading and it is also about writing, food, science—and art. At Ethel Phillips, SIMS taught a group of budding artists about mixing paint and creating self portraits.

The outcome of the four-week course was so impressive that the students’ work became part of Sacramento’s Second Saturday Art Walk. The Coffee Garden hosted the exhibit and invited the students and parents to a special opening complete with hot chocolate and cookies.

We’re delighted with the community support and the new literacy growing at this fine Sacramento elementary school.
